What is RuneScape?
New here? This page explains what RuneScape is, and how to make the most of it on the Camping Club server.
RuneScape is a fantasy online role-playing game set in the world of Gielinor. This server recreates the game as it was in 2009, in its High Detail era: the same map, the same quests and the same skills.
There is no single path to follow. You can train skills, go on quests, fight monsters, trade with other players, or simply explore. Every player writes their own story.
Each skill goes from level 1 to 99. You gain experience (XP) by using a skill, and new levels unlock new items, areas and activities.
- Combat: Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Ranged, Prayer, Magic and Summoning.
- Gathering: Mining, Fishing, Woodcutting, Farming and Hunter: collect raw materials from the world.
- Artisan: Smithing, Cooking, Crafting, Fletching, Firemaking, Herblore, Runecrafting and Construction: turn materials into useful items.
- Support: Agility, Thieving and Slayer: move faster, steal and hunt dangerous creatures.

There are three styles of combat, and each one is strong against another: melee beats ranged, ranged beats magic, and magic beats melee. Your combat level is calculated from your combat skills, up to level 138.
When you die, you reappear in Lumbridge. You keep your three most valuable items, and the rest waits in a gravestone where you died for a few minutes: go back quickly to pick it up.
Quests are stories with puzzles, fights and memorable characters. They give rewards like experience, items, new spells and access to new areas. Our server has 69 quests ready to play.
The currency is coins, often called gp. You earn them by selling what you gather and make. The Grand Exchange in Varrock lets you buy and sell almost any item, even when the other player is offline.
- Free for everyone: all the members content is open to every player.
- The classic pace: experience is earned at the original 1x rate, the same for everyone, as in 2009.
- A living world: adventure bots roam the world, gather resources and sell them on the Grand Exchange.
- A friendly community: ask for help anytime on the Camping Club Discord.
- Download the game and create your account.
- Complete Tutorial Island to learn the basics, or talk to Skippy to skip it.
- In Lumbridge, pick up the free starter tools and train a few skills.
- Start with easy quests like Cook's Assistant, Sheep Shearer and The Restless Ghost.
